La Vernia ISD Celebrates New Chapter with Ribbon Cutting at Intermediate School

La Vernia, TX — La Vernia Independent School District proudly marked a major milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 8 at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the completion of significant upgrades and a new addition at La Vernia Intermediate School.

The event welcomed community members, staff, students, and partners to formally dedicate the enhanced campus—an investment in the future of education for La Vernia students in grades 3–5.

“This campus serves students at a key stage—where curiosity grows rapidly, confidence begins to take shape, and children start to figure out who they are as learners,” said Superintendent Dr. Hensley Cone during the ceremony. “The spaces we create for them matter, and today, we open a stronger, more capable learning environment built for exactly that.”

The improvements include:

  • 14 brand-new classrooms

  • 4 remodeled classrooms

  • A new science room

  • 3 special education classrooms

  • A new teacher workroom

  • 2 new offices and a conference room

  • An addition to the gymnasium

These upgrades expand the school’s capacity to support hands-on learning, strengthen special education offerings, and provide educators with high-quality tools and environments.

Dr. Cone acknowledged the leadership of the La Vernia ISD Board of Trustees and former trustees involved in the Bond 2023 planning effort. Special thanks were extended to project partners AGCM, Pfluger Architects, and Bartlett Cocke Construction for their dedication and craftsmanship.

“But the true value isn’t in counting rooms. It’s in what will happen inside them,” Dr. Cone added. “This is where students will discover new interests, take on bigger challenges, and build the habits and confidence that will carry them into junior high and beyond.”

Following the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to explore the new spaces, enjoy refreshments, and experience firsthand the transformative impact of community investment in education.
